It takes a special person to walk alongside someone who is grieving the death of a loved one.  It takes a special person to listen, with their heart and ears, to the pain, uncertainty and strength that comes with losing someone so dear.    It takes a special person to accept someone in their grief, when the waves are both high and low.  It takes a special person like you.

In his book entitled The Handbook for Companioning the Mourner,  Alan Wolfelt states, “Humility is grounded in realizing you are not an expert in grief.  You are the student who is being taught by the true expert – the person in grief”.

Volunteers are the heart beat of the Tides program.  We could not do what we do, without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers.  Responsibilities may include both direct and indirect support.

The range of volunteer services for DIRECT support include:

  • Grief support group facilitators for children, teen, and adult groups
  • Educational Training Sessions

The range of volunteer services for INDIRECT support include:

  • Photography
  • Administrative support
  • Event assistance

Clearances Needed

In order to volunteer with Tides, we ask each volunteer to complete the PA Criminal Background Check and the PA Child Abuse History Clearance form.  We take the safety of our volunteers and Tides families very seriously and take multiple measures to ensure this.

Please fill out a volunteer form and email to info@tidesprogram.org. For additional information about volunteering, please contact us at info@tidesprogram.org or (814)692-2233.
