School Programming

Grief Support for Students

What is School Programming?

Tides supports students throughout Centre County by facilitating school-based peer grief support groups, offering grief-specific guidance and toolboxes for counselors, and distributing age-appropriate and loss-specific Bags of Hope to students and faculty who recently experienced a death.

Who We Serve

School Programming is designed for kindergarteners through 12th graders, serving ages 5-18 who reside within one of the five school districts of Centre County: Bellefonte, State College, Penns Valley, Bald Eagle and Philipsburg school districts. Not only does the program benefit the students involved, but it also helps their families and the loved ones who support them.

How We’re Doing It

Tides is working with each district to identify schools and create a custom program that meets their needs, free of charge. Proposed services are designed to:

  • Build and facilitate grief peer support groups within the schools
  • Educate school counselors, faculty and staff
  • Distribute grief toolboxes, including coping tools and books for counselors and teachers
  • Provide Bags of Hope—for grieving children to take home. Items include age-appropriate and loss-specific information as well as coping and comfort items.

All Tides programming and services are offered completely free of charge to grieving individuals in central Pennsylvania.
